Men's Golf Finishes 17th At Golf World Invite

The No.12-ranked University of Florida men's golf team finished in 17th place after carding a 296 in the final round of the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational, to finish the tournament with a three-day total of 874 (+10). The tournament was played at the Arthur Hills Course (par 72, 6,651 yards) at Palmetto Dunes Resort in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Georgia set a tournament record with a three-round total of 822 (-42) to clinch first place in the 18-team field.
Leading the Gators was junior Camilo Benedetti (Medellin, Colombia/Instituto Jorge Robledo) who shot a 69 in the final round to finish in a tie for 28th with a three-round total of 213 (-3). Freshman Camilo Villegas (Medellin, Colombia/The Columbus School) finished in a tie for 33rd after carding a 73 in the final round to finish 2-under-par 214. Junior Ben Banks (England, United Kingdom/King Edwards School) shot a 76 in the final round to finish in a tie for 54th with a three-day total of 3-over-par 219. Seniors Simon Lacey (North Beach, Western Australia/Carine Senior) and Nick Gilliam (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) finished in 84th and 85th places, respectively. Lacey's 78 in the third round put him in 84th place with a score of 236 (+20). Gilliam carded a 79 in the final round to finish in 85th place at 22-over-par 238.
The Gators concluded their fall season at the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational. Florida will not be back in action until it is the host to the SunTrust Gator Invitational Feb. 10-11 in Gainesville, Fla. The Gator Invitational will be played at the University Golf Course (par 70, 6,300 yards).
