Code Leads Women's Golf to Sixth Place Finish

The 13th-ranked University of Florida women's golf team finished sixth with a score of 889 (303-293-293) at the 2002 Auburn Derby Invitational. The tournament, hosted by the University of Auburn, matched the Lady Gators against the top five teams in the nation and seven of the top-10. No. 10 Tennessee won the tournament, shooting a final round of 285 to finish the tournament with a score of 871 (289-297-285).
Sophomore Whitney Code (Tampa, Fla.) led the Lady Gators during each day of the tournament, finishing tied for fifth place. Code shot a collegiate best score of 216 (73-71-72) and matched her best finish of fifth. Code's previous low tournament score came last season at the NCAA East Regionals when she finished tied for 20th with a 221.
Senior Jeanne Cho (Bradenton, Fla.) and junior Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.) both tied for 24th place, each shooting a three-round 225. Senior Brittany Straza (Fort Myers, Fla.) shot a one-over-par 73 in the third round to finish the Derby tied for 34th-place (82-73-73). Sophomore Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) shot a three-round 230 (78-77-75) to finish tied for 44th. Freshman Camila Gonzalez (Bucaramanga, Columbia) finished in 61st place with a score of 236 (81-71-84) after competing in the Derby as an individual.
The Auburn Derby Invitational concludes the fall portion of the Lady Gators season. Florida will hit the links February 10-12 as they travel to Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. to the 2003 TRW Regional Challenge, hosted by Ohio State.
