Women's Golf Moves to Second at NCAA East Regional

The University of Florida women's golf team shot a two-over-par 290 but moved to second place after Duke University put together an eight-under-par 280 to take over the lead at the NCAA East Regional Friday in Baton Rouge, La.
Freshman Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) rebounded from an opening-round 80 to notch a career-low score of two-under-par 70 in round two to lead the team. She birdied three holes on the front nine to make the turn at three-under-par and birdied hole 15 before double-bogeying 18 to tie for 46th place. Fellow freshman Whitney Code (Tampa, Fla.) shot a two-over-par 74 to finish in a tie for seventh with a two-round total of 143.
Sophomore Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.) carded an even-par 72, bringing her two-round total to 146. Junior Brittany Straza (Ft. Myers, Fla.) finished two strokes over par to finish with a 74. Junior Jeanne Cho (Boulogne, France) shot a 75 to finish the day at three-over-par and bring her two-day score to 146 as well. Cho, Dick and Straza are tied for 17th place.
Lady Blue Devil Leigh Ann Hardin moved into the individual lead after shooting a five-under-par 67, pacing Duke on the day.
The top eight teams in each of the three regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships, held in Auburn, Wash., May 21-24. The final round begins Saturday at 7:30 a.m. CST, with the Gators' first tee time set for the same time. Live scoring is available at www.gatorzone.com.
