Women's Golf Remains in Fifth Place at NCAAs
Friday, May 24, 2002 | Women's Golf
The University of Florida women's golf team remained tied for fifth heading into the final day of competition at the 2002 NCAA Championships, just 10 strokes behind Arizona. Texas and Duke round out the top three at 876 and 877, respectively.
"I'm very proud of the team. We have worked hard all year, and we're prepared," said UF Head Coach Jill Briles-Hinton. "They need to believe and stay committed and focused on their goals. If you can stay committed and focused on your goals, that will help block outside distractions. They just have to go out tomorrow, have fun and play golf."
Individually, freshman Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) shot a one-under-par 71 to move to a tie for sixth place with a three-round 214. Vander Lende's round was capped by an eagle on hole three and birdies on holes six and seven. Junior Jeanne Cho (Boulogne, France) carded a one- over-par 73 to finish in a tie for 27th place with a 222, and freshman Whitney Code (Tampa, Fla.) was right behind with a 75 to move to a tie for 41st place with 223 over the last three days. Rounding out the scoring for the Gators were Brittany Straza (Ft. Myers, Fla.), who shot a 76 and finished in a tie for 66th place with an overall 227, and sophomore Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.), who turned in a 77 to finish in in a tie for 89th place with an overall 231.
