Women's Golf Wins SunTrust Invitational

The University of Florida women's golf team won their second consecutive SunTrust Invitational title after finishing with a three-round score of 873 (293-294-286) Tuesday afternoon at the University Golf Course. Kristin Tamulis from Florida State won the individual title after shooting a five-over-par 215 for the tournament.
"Everyone played very well and we are very pleased with our play during the tournament" head coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. "The whole team was very focused today and that is what we needed to win."
Freshman Aimee Cho (Orlando, Fla.) finished two strokes behind the leader with a seven-over-par 217 to tie for second place. Cho shot a third-round low score of 70 today as she birdied her second hole of the day. This tournament marks the second straight second place finish for Cho.
Junior Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.) and senior Brittany Straza (Ft. Meyers, Fla.) finished tied for fourth place with a score of 218. Dick birdied five holes today, finishing the day with a 71. Straza came back from 12th place after shooting a 75 in the second round and birdied holes 12 and 15 to also finish with a third-round low score of 70.
Senior Jeanne Cho (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) tied for 18th place with a final score of 225. Both Cho and Vander Lende finished the third round with a five-over-par 75.
Junior Joy Stephenson (Fort Myers, Fla.) finished as the top individual in the tournament, tying for 14th place with a three-round score of 224. Sophomore Whitney Code (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Tarah McNaughton (Bradenton, Fla.) each tied for 39th place with a score 230.
The Lady Gators will be back in action April 4-6 as they travel to Athens, Ga. to take part in the 2003 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.
