Men's Golf T4th At NCAA East Regional

The No. 5 University of Florida men's golf team is tied for fourth place at 578 (+2) after the first two rounds of the NCAA East Regional in Auburn, Ala. The Gators fired an even-par 288 in the second round of the regional at the Auburn University Club. The top-10 teams from the tournament will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 27-30 at the Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, Okla.
Junior Camilo Villegas (Medellin, Colombia) is the highest Gator in the individual standings, as he is tied for 17th at 142 (-2). Villegas, who was named the Southeastern Conference's Golfer of the Week on May 13, fired a three-under 69 during the second 18-holes of the tournament.
Freshman James Vargas (Miami, Fla.) is behind Villegas, as he is tied at 26th with a two-round total of 144 (E). Vargas, a 2003 All-SEC first team selection, shot a +1 (73) during the second day. Fellow freshman Matt Every (Daytona Beach, Fla.) shot a second round score of 74 (+2) to finish tied for 38th after Friday. Every is at +2 (146). Senior Jordan Code (Tampa, Fla.) is tied for 44th at 147 (+3). Code shot a second round 73 (+1). Freshman Brett Stegmaier (Madison, Conn.) is the other Gator golfer in the field as he is tied for 60th after the first two rounds. Stegmaier shot a second round 73 (+1) to finish with a two-round total of 149 (+5).
Clemson is the team leader in the tournament, as the Tigers are at 14-under with a 562. Georgia Tech is second at 567 (-9), while Tennessee is third at –4 (572).
The final round of the NCAA East Regional will begin Saturday at 9 a.m.
