Freshman Naree Song (Bradenton, Fla.) led the No.3/9 Lady Gator Golf team to an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Fall Preview tournament hosted by Auburn. UF carded a 912 for the event, only six strokes away from the Top 10. Duke defeated Auburn in a playoff to claim the tournament title.
The 11th-place finish is the highest UF ever has finished in the NCAA Fall Preview tournament. Last year the Lady Gators finished 13th.
Song finished tied for 18th place with a 220 (75-71-74). Sophomore Aimee Cho (Orlando, Fla.) finished one stroke over Song with a 221 (76-72-73) to finish tied for 22nd.
Other finishers for the Lady Gators included freshman Mallory Code (Tampa, Fla.) and sophomore Camila Gonzalez (Bucaramanga, Columbia) who both tied for 68th place with a 236. Sophomore Tarah McNaughton (Bradenton, Fla.) carded a 77 Sunday, her best round in the three day tournament, to finish tied for 78th place.
The NCAA Fall Preview tournament featured 13 teams that played at the 2003 NCAA Championships. Ten of the 18 teams are ranked in the Top 10 in both the NGCA and Golfweek polls.
Florida will have a week off before they travel to Franklin, Tenn., for the 2003 Mason Rudolph Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt. The Lady Gators will play three rounds Sept. 26-28, 2003.
