W. Golf Moves Up One to Sit in Third at Chrysler Challenge

The No. 20 Florida women's golf team sits in third after the second of three rounds at the Chrysler Challenge, held at the par 71, 6,900 yard Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Fla. The Lady Gators moved up one spot from their round one finish of fourth, with a 302 effort on the day.
Sophomore captain Tiffany Chudy (Miramar) continues to lead the Orange and Blue, as she moved up five spots from her 12th place finish in round one. Chudy shot a 73 in round two to take her tourney total to 148. Sophomore Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany) sits in a tie for 15th after round two with a 76-76=152 for the tourney.
Sophomore Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Pa.) carded a round two 76 (77-76=153) while freshman Mallory Blackwelder (Versailles, Ky.) and redshirt freshman Ornella Jouven (La Ciotat, France) each notched a 77 on the day to sit in 23rd place with a two round total of 154. Head coach Jill Briles-Hinton was not impressed with the play of the Lady Gators, and felt vast improvement would have to be made for the squad to challenge South Carolina, the current field leader.
“We didn't play great today, which is disappointing,” said Briles-Hinton. “We haven't been getting any birdies, there have been plenty of pars, but no birdies. We've got our work cut out for us tomorrow, we're 20 strokes behind the leader so we're going to have to fight hard.”
In the team standings South Carolina sits in first after round two with a score of 607, while Alabama retained second with a 604. Mississippi State dropped one spot to fourth place with a 610, while Louisiana State sits in fifth with a 612. Florida State notched a 613 two-round total to sit in sixth and Mississippi rounds out the seven-team field with a 618.
Action continues at the Raven Golf Club Sunday morning, when the Lady Gators and the rest of the field will hit the course for the final 18 holes of the tourney. A round recap and full results will be available at the conclusion of the day at www.gatorzone.com.
