No. 10 Men's Golf Tied for Seventh-Place at 2005 Southern Highlands Collegiate

The No. 10 University of Florida men's golf team fired a eight-over par score of 296 to finish the first round tied for seventh-place at the Southern Highlands Golf Club. The Gators are eight strokes back of first round leader Arizona State, who recorded an opening round even par score of 288.
Leading the Gators was the reigning Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week, James Vargas (Miami, Fla.) as he opened the three-round tournament by notching an even par score of 72 and will begin the second round of play tied for 10th-place.
Redshirt senior Richard Treis (Baden-Baden, Germany) fired a one-over par score of 73 to sit in a tie for 19th-place.
Continuing his solid play this spring, junior Brett Stegmaier (Madison, Conn.) carded an opening round score of 74, which was good enough to tie for 31st-place.
Junior Matt Every (Daytona Beach, Fla.) sits in a tie for 58th-place as he recorded an opening round five-over par score of 77.
Redshirt freshman Manuel Villegas (Medellin, Colombia) struggled in the first round as he carded a nine-over par score of 81 and will begin the second round of play tied for 75th-place.
The 2005 Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship continues tomorrow through Sunday, March 13 at the Southern Highlands Golf Club.
