Florida Men's Golf Team Seventh At Shoal Creek Invitational

The No. 3 ranked University of Florida Men's Golf Team placed seventh at the inaugural Shoal Creek Invitational. Despite going into Tuesday's final-round only six shots behind the leaders, the Gators could not overcome the deficit after recording a team score of 290-284-300 = 874 (+10).
Senior Matt Every (Daytona Beach, Fla.) was the lone bright spot for the Gators during the final-round. Every fired a 71-67-73 = 211 (-5) to finish tied for fourth and was one shot off behind a three-way tie for first-place. Every led the field after the second round and was looking to clinch his second individual medal of the season.
Freshman Billy Horschel (Grant, Fla.) had a respectable score of 72-71-74 = 217 (+1) to finished tied for 12th-place. Horschel has finished in the top-15 at his first two collegiate tournaments.
“We were in a pretty good chance to win the tournament going into today,” Florida coach Buddy Alexander said. “For whatever reason we ended up backwards; I hope this is the worst round that we play all season.”
Louisiana State took home the team title, by a score of 284-289-290 = 863 (-1). East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies and Tennessee's Jonathan Mount were declared co-champions after playing even on a four-hole playoff. Notre Dame's Cole Isban was knocked out on the first playoff hole.
Florida returns to the links on October 10-11, as the Gators co-host the Gary Koch Invitational at Old Memorial in Tampa, Fla.
