W. Golf Team Eighth After Second Round At NCAA Championship

The University of Florida women's golf team moved to eighth place at the NCAA Championship on Wednesday after carding a second round score 307 to give the Lady Gators a two-day total of 600 (+19). Sophomore Tiffany Chudy (Miramar, Fla.) kept pace with the individual leaders and finished the day tied for third.
Chudy recorded a three-over-par score of 75 to lead the Gators for a second consecutive day on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State Golf Club. She had a clean front-nine where she collected two of her team-leading three birdies for the round.
“Tiffany has been working on her swing all year long,” Florida head coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. “When you work on your swing, you are going to have some highs and lows, which are never fun. She has held off that mental pain when we don't play well, so she deserves this and more good rounds.”
Chudy finds herself tied with Tennessee's Violeta Retamoza for third place at 144 (E). Both will head into the third round trailing Pepperdine's Eileen Vargas, who leads the field with a two-round total of 139 (-5).
Sophomore Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany) finished the day in the top-10 with an even-par 72. Redshirt freshman Ornella Jouven (La Ciotat, France ) had a rough day, carding seven bogeys and carding a and 80 (+8). Freshman Mallory Blackwelder (Versailles, Ky) and sophomore Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Pa.) also struggled during the second round with scores of 80 (+8) and 83 (+11) respectively.
“We could not get it together today,” Briles-Hinton said, “but they hung in there and fought back, which is good. We salvaged what we could and now we're not in such a bad position. I think what we need is to be patient and play smart. If everyone plays well the next two days, anything is possible.”
Arizona State vaulted into the lead by recording a team score of 294 (+6) for the day. Top-ranked Duke recorded the lowest score of the day, 292 (+4), and moved up into second place.
Florida will play the third round on Thursday afternoon beginning at 1:20 p.m. on the back nine. Live scoring updates and complete results from each round can be found at www.golfstat.com.
