W. Golf In Fourth At Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown
Tuesday, October 27, 2009 | Women's Golf
The University of Florida women's golf team climbed three places on the leaderboard and is currently in fourth place at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The squad currently boasts of 36-hole total score of 586 (289-297, +10).
“This morning we talked about being patient out there,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “The winds are up to 40 miles an hour out here, creating some really tough conditions. Patience is key in weather like this. To finish at nine-over in adverse conditions like we saw today is good. I'm proud of them.”
The squad is currently being led by Isabelle Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) who is tied for ninth. Isabelle carded an even-par 72 on Tuesday for a total score of 145 (73-72, +1). The freshman tallied three birdies and three bogeys.
Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) and Amelia Lewis (Jacksonville, Fla.) are tied for 15th after both Gators finished the day with a 36-hole score of 147 (+3). Marika entered the turn at one-over par after following a double bogey on her second hole with a birdie on her third. Two birdies on 10 and 13 put her at one-under par, but she added a bogey and double bogey in her final four holes. Lewis became the second Gator to shoot an eagle in Las Vegas as the freshman needed only three strokes on the par-five 16th hole. The freshman added one birdie, four bogeys and a double bogey in her second round.
Junior Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) had the highest round among teammates after leading the squad on Monday. Yadloczky entered the turn at two-over but back-to-back double bogeys on her 14th and 15th holes put her at six-over. However she recovered by making a birdie on her next hole to finish at five-over par. Yadloczky is currently in a tie for 22nd with a total score of 148 (71-78, +4). Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) is tied for 40th with a 151 (75-76, +7).
The Gators will wrap up the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and their 2009 fall season on Wednesday. Visit www.GatorZone.com for live scoring and official results.
