Women's Golf Up One Spot After Day 2 of SEC Championship
Saturday, April 18, 2009 | Women's Golf
The UF women's golf team improved their team score by 12 strokes and jumped one place on the leaderboard following the second day of competition at the 2009 SEC Championship. The Lady Gators shot a 295 for a 36-hole team total of 602 (307-295, +34) and are currently in ninth place.
“We made progress today,” said head coach Jill Briles-Hinton. “The team was focused on process instead of outcome which helps in tense situations. We continue to work on strengthening out weaknesses and maintaining our strengths to post a solid round tomorrow.”
Each member of the Lady Gator squad at least duplicated their first round score or improved it. Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) is currently in a tie for fifth place after taking one stroke off her previous round. The sophomore shot an even-par 71 for a two-day total score of 143 (E).
The most improved golfer for Florida was Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.). The freshman shaved seven strokes off her first round score with a one-over 72 on Saturday. She is currently tied for 30th place with a 151 (79-72, +9). Three strokes behind Jensen is fellow freshman Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.), who is currently tied for 38th place. After carding a 79 in her first round, Watts notched a three-over 74 in her second for a 36-hole score of 154 (+12).
Owning sole custody of 44th place is Nicole Schachner (Libertyville, Ill.). Schachner improved her score by one stroke, carding a six-over 77 for a total score of 155 (78-77). Redshirt sophomore Lauren Uzelatz (Lakeland, Fla.) rounded out Florida's lineup with a 156 (78-78, +14) for a share of 45th place.
