The UF women's golf team finished its first tournament of the spring season in ninth place at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. After landing in 10th after day one and dropping to 12th following the second round, the Gators posted their best finish of the tournament when it mattered most. The squad carded a 298 (+14) in their final round, their best score of the tournament. Florida finished the Northrop Grumman with a team score of 911 (304-309-298, +59).
“It wasn't the best week for the Gators,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “But some really positive things happened today, so we just need to focus on the process and let the results take care of themselves. We definitely have some things we need to work on when we get back and we'll do that and move forward. This was a great course to play our first tournament of the spring on because our team couldn't hide any weaknesses. We just need to take a critical look at our golf game and improve from there.”
Freshman Isabelle Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) posted the best finish for the Gators, finishing in 11th place with a 222 (79-70-73, +9). Lendl entered the turn at one-under par after carding two birdies and one bogey. Lendl displayed her resiliency and composure as she followed a double bogey on her 10th hole with a birdie on her 11th and also made a birdie on her 14th hole are making consecutive bogeys on her 12th and 13th holes.
Also carding a 73 (+2) in Wednesday's final round was Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.), who bounced back after carding Florida's highest score in the second round. Her final score of 228 (73-82-73, +15) landed her in a tie for 28th. Yadloczky made birdies on holes eight and 16 and bogeys on holes three, four, five and 17. Just one stroke behind Yadloczky was Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) who finished the tournament in a tie for 33rd with a total tournament score of 229 (+16). The sophomore shot her best round of the event on Wednesday as she carded a four-over 75.
Sophomore Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) matched her first round score, carding a 77 (+6) in her final round. Her 54-hole total score of 235 (+22) landed her in a tie for 61st.
