Women's Golf Tied For 10th At SEC Championship
Saturday, April 17, 2010 | Women's Golf
The University of Florida women's golf team fell one place on the leaderboard to tie for 10th after the second round of the SEC Championship on Saturday. The Gators boast a team score of 598 (+30) after carding a 300 on day two.
“Our momentum again was killed with some big numbers,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “We still have a lot to play for and I still believe in the team and they should still believe in themselves. We want to go out tomorrow and continue to work on the things we need to work on to continue through post-season.”
Freshmen Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) and Isabelle Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) currently rank highest among Gators. The duo is tied for 33rd with a 149 (+7). Piccio led the team after day one, but added three strokes to her previous round score and carded a 76 (+5) on Saturday. Lendl shaved on stroke off her first round score by carding a three-over 74, the low UF score on day two.
“There were two positives that came out of today and they were both from our freshmen, which is encouraging,” said Dowling. “Mia took a huge number on the front nine and fought back. Isabelle gutted out a respectable score as well.”
Sophomore Evan Jensen (Bellaire, Fla.) matched Lendl's 74 and climbed seven places on the leaderboard on Saturday. Jensen is currently tied for 37th with a 36-hole score of 150 (76-74, +8). Junior Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) and sophomore Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) shot identical scores of 76 (+5) on Saturday after both carding a four-over 75 in the first round. The pair is tied for 40th with a 151 (+9).
Alabama and Vanderbilt are tied for the team lead with a 36-hole team score of 565 (-3).
The Gators return to action on Sunday for the third round. The squad will tee off beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com or www.GatorZone.com.
