Gators Finish Third at SunTrust Gator Invitational

Gainesville, Fla. – The University of Florida men's golf team fired a final round 300 for a three-round total of 865 to finish third at the 34^th SunTrust Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on the UF campus. Auburn captured the team title with a three-round score of 848 (+8).

“We just didn't play very well today,” said UF head coach Buddy Alexander. “I was disappointed in our round today, but I have to congratulate Auburn and Dominic Bozzelli, to shoot what he shot, in these conditions, was really some impressive golf.”

Leading the way for the Gators was junior T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.), who finished second after a final round 70 (E) gave him a three-round total of 207 (-3). Vogel started the day strong with a birdie on the first but quickly gave it back with a double on the par-3 second. Vogel was able to regain his composure and card birdies on five and nine to card a 34 (-1) on his outward nine. The junior came in with a 36 (+1) after making two birdies and three bogeys. The second place finish was Vogel's fifth-consecutive top-8 finish.

Redshirt senior Zach Lee (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) recorded the Gators' second best showing on the day with a 76 (+6). The walk-on finished with a three round total of 218 (+8) good for an 18^th place finish in his first event in the Orange and Blue.

Junior Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) also finished in the top-20, tying for 19^th after a final round 77. In his final round, McCumber posted a pair of birdies against nine bogeys to finish the event at 219.

Senior Michael Furci (Sayville, N.Y.) and freshman Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) rounded out the Gator lineup shooting final rounds of 77 and 82, respectively. Furci finished the tournament tied for 35^th,

Junior Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman Thomas Stewart (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) competed as individuals in the event posting scores of 225 and 226, respectively.

“I think we need to do a better job of keeping our emotions in check on the course,” Alexander said. “That's something that can really cost you strokes, not staying in the moment. That's something we're going to need to focus on and fix heading into our next tournament. ”

The Gators return to action on Monday, Feb. 27, when they compete in the Charleston Shootout at the Links at Stono Ferry in Hollywood, S.C.
