Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic

UF Concludes Play at the 2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship
Wednesday, February 29, 2012 | Women's Golf
The University of Florida women's golf team wrapped up play at the 2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship with a 10th-place finish. UF scored a tournament total of 898 (300-293-305, +34). The Gators now have four top-10 finishes this season.
“Today was not our day, but we can take several positives away from this event,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “We were really tough as a team on day two and put ourselves in a competitive position to win. Our course management is also improving and we will continue to trust our process. The hard work will pay off down the road, I'm sure of it.”
Freshman Camilla Hedberg (Sitges, Spain) led the way with a team-best 222 (77-68-77, +7). Hedberg's finish marks the fourth-time the Spaniard has handed in the lowest tournament score for the Gators. Hedberg ended the Sugar Bowl tied for 21st, her third-best finish in her brief collegiate career.
Senior Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.), senior Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) and Junior Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) all finished tied for 30th with a 54-hole total of 225 (+9?). Junior Megan Pak (Bradenton, Fla.) finished 79th with a 245 (+30), in her first tournament in the lineup this year.
The Gators will be in action next at Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. for the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational, March 16-18. UF will look to defend its crown at the 40th-annual Gator Invite after winning last year's tournament by 18-strokes over Florida State. The Orange and Blue have won the even t on 17 occasions as well as having eight medalists.
