Coming into the second day of the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational the University of Florida men's golf team was in sixth place. The team then recorded a 295 (+7) on Monday, February 25 to propel them into a four-way tie for fourth place at the Sawgrass Country Club.
“Given the conditions today, we played better than we did yesterday,” head coach Buddy Alexander said. “We got off to a rough start, but made a pretty good comeback.”
Sophomore J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) put together the best round of his season, relative to par, to lead the Gators. Tomlinson began his second round with two bogeys on two of the first three holes of the par-72, 6,910 yard course. He responded with five birdies against one bogey over the final 15 holes to finish with a 70 (-2). The Gainesville, Fla. native is currently in a tie for ninth place going into tomorrow's final round.
