Gators in Third After Day One at Chris Schenkel Invitational

The eighth-ranked University of Florida men's golf team is in third place after the first round of the Chris Schenkel Invitational on Friday, March 15. UF recorded an opening round score of 285 (-3) at the Forest Heights Country Club.
“We broke par for the first time this semester,” head coach Buddy Alexander stated. “We are in a decent spot after the first day.”
Seniors Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) both were two-under par for the first round of play. McCumber tallied one eagle and two birdies against two bogeys. Vogel registered seven birdies against five bogeys. The two are tied with four other golfers for sixth place.
Freshman A.J. Crouch (Jacksonville, Fla.) tallied his fifth round of the year at or under par with his first round-72 (E). Crouch is tied for 17th place going into tomorrow's second round.
Sophomore J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) was one-over par on the day and is tied for 22nd place. Classmate Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) wrapped up the UF lineup, shooting a 76 (+4) for the day.
Sophomore Thomas Stewart (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.), playing as an individual, is five-over after the first day.
“We are going to play with two really good teams tomorrow in Alabama and Texas,” Alexander commented. “It will be interesting to see how we do.”
Play will resume tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. at the par-72, 6,962 yard course. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
