After two rounds at the Chris Schenkel Invitational, the eighth-ranked University of Florida men's golf team remains in third place on Saturday, March 16. The team recorded a second round score of 296 (+8) at the par-72, 6,962 yard course.
“We did not go in the right direction,” head coach Buddy Alexander commented. “We didn't have a bad start, but some of our guys had problems at the end of their rounds.”
Sophomore Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) was the Gators' lowest scorer on the second day at the Forest Heights Country Club. Banks recorded an eagle and six birdies to counter four bogeys and two double-bogeys. He finished the rounds in 72 strokes (E), his fourth round of the year at or under par. The Truro, Canada native is four-over for the three-day event and is in a tie for 32nd place individually.
Classmate J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) finished one stroke behind Banks on the second day of competition in Statesboro, Ga. It marked his second consecutive round at one-over par. He is tied for 23rd place.
Seniors T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) and Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) both were over par after they both recorded an opening round score of 70. Vogel was three-over par, while McCumber was four-over. At one-over par after two rounds, Vogel is tied for 18th place. McCumber is tied with teammate Tomlinson for 23rd place.
Freshman A.J. Crouch (Jacksonville, Fla.) completed the UF lineup, finishing the round in 79 strokes.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Thomas Stewart (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) was six-over par for the second day of play.
“Hopefully, we can improve tomorrow and get back in the right direction,” Alexander concluded.
The final round of the Chris Schenkel Invitational will commence tomorrow. Crouch will lead off for the Gators and will tee off at 8:30. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
