Gators Sit at Even Par After Round Two of USF Invitational
Tuesday, March 4, 2014 | Men's Golf
Improving six strokes as a team today, Florida shot three-under on the afternoon and finished round two in ninth place (285). No. 21 South Florida climbed the leaderboard today after shooting 19-under (269) to land in first place as the Bulls are now 26-under overall, pacing No. 17 Florida State by nine strokes.
Freshman Ryan Orr and junior J.D. Tomlinson tallied under-par rounds, as Orr fired a 71 for the second consecutive day and Tomlinson carded a 72. Orr penciled in five birdies and now sits T20 while Tomlinson made just two and currently shares a spot for 30th.
Most notable on the afternoon was junior Eric Banks who matched his career-low round score of 68 after making a team-leading six birdies today. Banks' performance was his best of season, scoring his last 68 in the 2013 Chris Schenkel Invitational.
Freshman Victor Tarnstrom and sophomore Richard Donegan carded a 76 and 74, respectively, while redshirt junior Santiago Gavino, who is competing as an individual for the Gators, slid to three-over after scoring a 76 today.
Buddy's Bite: “Today was positive. The golf course was a little tougher today, there was a lot more wind and obviously the scores were a little higher. So, this was solid. It wasn't spectacular, but hopefully it's a starting point of moving forward with some better play.”
