Gators Move Into 10th After Round Two of Conference Championship
Saturday, April 26, 2014 | Men's Golf
Improving 11 strokes from yesterday's team total, the Gators men's golf squad climbed a few spots on the leaderboard to finish round two of the conference championship in 10th place. Florida ended play with a 281 this afternoon, powered by a collective effort from the Gator five.
Shooting 1-under, junior Eric Banks led the Orange and Blue with his 69 to conclude the round just inside the top-25. Banks double-bogeyed on four and bogeyed on 10, but made four birdies and shot even the rest of the way to seal his position.
Behind Banks, freshman Ryan Orr carded a 74, slipping to T36 while two other Gators fired even-par. Freshman Victor Tarnstrom notably improved 15 strokes today with his 70 and sophomore Richard Donegan now sits at 6-over overall after sinking four birdies, three on the back nine.
Rounding out the five was junior J.D. Tomlinson who finished off the afternoon with a 72. Tomlinson notched four birdies on the front nine, but bogeyed three times on the back to end play at 5-over.
Buddy's Bite: “A pretty solid day today. The golf course was little bit easier, but we had all five guys hang in there pretty well today so that was a positive. Ryan (Orr) made a couple of bogeys late but he was still in the round until the very end. It was kind of the opposite of yesterday in that we had a couple of guys jump out of the box quickly. Richard (Donegan) got under early as did Victor (Tarnstrom), and in the middle of the round we stumbled a little bit and then kind of got it together again late. So, that was very positive. Victor had an unusually good turnaround and hopefully tomorrow we can continue that trend of solid play.”
