Florida Women’s Golf in Fifth After Opening Round of Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge
Monday, February 9, 2015 | Women's Golf
The Gators' women's golf team enjoyed an impressive opening performance at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Sunday. Florida fired a season-low round of 291 on its way to a fifth-place showing in a talented field with 10 ranked teams.
Gator freshman Taylor Tomlinson used five birdies on the day to lead the Orange and Blue in Round 1, finishing +1 (72), tying her season-best score, and is tied for 13th place overall. Florida senior Camilla Hedberg was consistent with two birdies on the back and front nine to match teammates Karolina Vlckova and Maria Torres with an opening-round score of +2 (73). The trio is tied for 18th.
The 16-team tournament field features 10 of Golfweek's top-25 teams, but it was unranked Baylor (281) which emerged on top after day one, leading the field by four strokes at the 6,017-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club. The Gators will be back at it Monday for Round 2 of competition, when play on the par-71 course begins at 9 a.m. PT.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
Thoughts on the Gators' Round 1 play:
“It was a solid start for the team today. We did a lot of things well and showed a lot of patience. Everyone's attitudes were really good and I can see a lot of improvements on the things we've been focusing on in practice. I am looking forward to the next few days.”
