Friday, April 17, 2015 | Women's Golf
The 21st-ranked Gators' women's golf team battled the rain and opened postseason competition at the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., on Friday. Florida scored +11 (299) as a team, to tie LSU and South Carolina for fourth place. A trio of SEC competitors are knotted at the top of the leaderboard, with Texas A&M, Tennessee and Vanderbilt leading the field with a +5 (293) score.
Freshman Taylor Tomlinson opened her first postseason campaign with a bang by recording the Gators' only sub-par round of the day, a two-under par score, and is in a tie for second place. Anna Young joins Tomlinson in the top-25 after Round 1, the senior carded a +3 (75) and is in a tie for 23rd.
The SEC Championship will continue tomorrow with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. (CT) for the second round at the par-72 Greystone Golf and Country Club 6,308-yard Legacy course.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
Thoughts on the Gators' play on Friday:
“The girls battled today. The conditions were terrible, it rained all day and towards the end it was hard to find a dry spot anywhere. Tomorrow will be a fun day as the weather is supposed to improve and the greens should still be receptive. We will get rested tonight and get in a good frame of mind to go and play tough tomorrow.”
On Taylor Tomlinson leading the team through day one:
“I'm happy for Taylor to play like she did. She's a hard worker and that's exactly what she did today. She was focused an it paid off.”
