GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida once again posted outstanding Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores across all sports, with every sport scoring above 960, the NCAA announced on Wednesday.
As announced last week, softball, women's tennis and men's basketball all scored a perfect 1000. The Gator men's basketball and softball teams were the only teams in the Southeastern Conference to achieve a 1000 in their sport. In addition, women's tennis tied for first in the SEC with a 1000 and women's basketball tied for second in the conference with a 990. Of the 21 scores provided for UF squads (indoor and outdoor track & field are scored separately), 14 sports scored equal to or better than last year's score.
“We want our student-athletes' championship experience at the University of Florida to extend to the classroom, and achieving their degree is an essential part of that,” director of athletics Jeremy Foley said. “These young women and men consistently demonstrate a passion for learning and a desire for excellence in everything they do, on and off the field.”
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation to provide a measure of each team's academic performance. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from 2010-14.
The NCAA membership has created an academic point of access to postseason competition for all teams, based on a minimal level of academic performance using the APR, which is currently a 930 score.
