Orlando, Fla. – The University of Florida women's golf team competed in the first round of the Annika Intercollegiate in Orlando, Fla. on Sunday, the Gators sit in fifth place after posting a team score of -6 (282) in the first round.
Senior Maria Torres led the Gators, firing a 68 and tying her career low. Torres is currently T6 (-4), after recording five birdies in her first round of the 2016-17 season.
Freshman Carlotta Ricolfi made a solid debut for the Gators, recording a 71 for the day. Ricolfi sits in T22 (-1) with her teammate Karolina Vlckova.
South Carolina is leading the tournament at -14 (274), and South Carolina's Katelyn Dambaugh is at the top of the individual leaderboard at -8 (64) on the par-72, 6,257-yard Reunion Resort's Watson Course.

Thoughts on the Gators' first day of competition:
"We left a few out there, but I thought overall we played well. We had a lot of opportunities, and if we capitalize on a few more over the next few days we will be very competitive."
