NEW ORLEANS – After learning late Sunday that the three-round Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship would be shortened into a two-day tournament, the Gators' women's golf team played 36 holes on Monday and finished in second place at eight-over (874).
Following Florida's four-over (292) in round one on Sunday, UF climbed the leaderboard from a tie for fourth to runner-up in the second round on Monday morning with a two-under (286).
That tally was the third-lowest round any team posted throughout the event.
UF finished the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate with a 10-over (874) and held off Oklahoma State and Arizona by one stroke to finish second.
Individually, all five Gators finished inside the top-32 of the 17-team field.
Senior Kelly Grassel, who recorded a one-under (215), paced Florida at the event as she tied for seventh. Meanwhile, her classmate Maria Torres carded an even par (216) to finish ninth.
For the season, it was Grassel's fourth top-10 finish and Torres' third.
Junior Taylor Tomlinson, senior Karolina Vlckova and freshman Marta Perez all tied for 32nd overall with scores of eight-over (224) for the championship.
Haley Moore from Arizona captured the individual title at six-under (210), while Stanford won the team title with a one-under, 863.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
On Monday's performance:
"It was sort of an up and down day. I saw so many positives, as we really do the hard things well. However, we gave too many easy things away today that kept us from giving Stanford a run."
On the second place finish:
"The team isn't satisfied with second and I love that. I know that we are a great team. This group is really into the process of getting better every day and figuring out how we continue to do that."
On having a couple weeks off until Florida's home tournament:
"It will be nice to have some time to work at home before the Gator Invite and prepare for all the excitement and emotions that that week brings."
