BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gators women's golf team is atop the leaderboard following the second round of the SEC Women's Golf Championship. Florida posted an eight-under (280) on Saturday, to move to 12-under (564) for the tournament.
UF finished the day with a five-stroke lead over the 14-team field.
Maria Torres paced the Gators as she stands in a tie for third place at six-under (138). The senior goes into the final round two-strokes off the lead, looking to win the SEC Individual Title for the second year in a row.
Taylor Tomlinson also had a great day for the Orange and Blue, as she sits in a tie for fifth place at four-under (140). She tied her collegiate-low round score with a four-under (68) in the second round.
Meanwhile, Karolina Vlckova and Kelly Grassel both sit inside the top-15, tied for 11th place at one-under (143).
UF enters Sunday's final round looking to win the SEC Championship for the ninth time in school history and the first time since 2008.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
On the Gators' second round…
"A lot of solid golf today. Our ability to grind impressed me the most. We played hard all the way to the end again."
On Sunday's final round…
"We talked about how we've been in this position before. We understand that winning is difficult and we don't take it for granted. We know that the best way to get there is to worry about ourselves and play our game no matter the circumstances.
