Gators Leave Room to Improve in First Round of NCAA Championship

SUGAR GROVE, Illinois – Rain and wind proved difficult for the Gators women's golf team during the first round of the NCAA Championship on Friday. Florida finished the day in 16th place after shooting a 32-over (320).
Karolina Vlckova led the Gators in the first round carding a six-over (78). The senior finished the day in a tie for 33th place.
Northwestern is leading the field at 13-over (301), and Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho is atop the individual leaderboard at even-under (72).
The top-15 teams after Sunday's third round will advance to the fourth and final round of stroke play on Monday.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
On the first round…
"I thought we were tough and had good attitudes. I know everyone was trying. I thought we got worn down at the end and our finish wasn't as good as it could be. We had some momentum through the middle of the round but couldn't keep it going."
On the conditions…
"Well clearly a tough day, the conditions were some of the worst I have seen. Mainly because you had everything, wind, rain and cold."
On going into the second round…
"The scores are tight and this is by no means over. We have three more rounds and I think the most important thing to focus on at this point is learning from today and playing as hard as we can for the next three days. We want to make sure we leave everything we have to give out on this golf course."
