Gators Sweep 200 Back on Final Day of Auburn Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. – Ethan Beach and Miguel Cancel tallied individual victories on the final day of competition in Alabama to lead the Gators. The University of Florida men's swimming team returned to the James E. Martin Aquatic Center on Sunday at the Auburn Invitational.
Ethan Beach got the meet started off with a season-best time of 1:44.02 in the 200 Back final and won. Dakota Mahaffey clocked a season-best mark of 1:45.64 and placed second. Tyler Silver placed third and completed the sweep with a swim of 1:47.51.
In the 100 Free final, Jack Szaranek placed fifth with a season-best 44.71. Viktor Toth finished in sixth with an effort of 44.91, after he swam a season-best 44.75 in the prelims. Isaac Davis nearly tied his personal-best time of 45.07 with a mark of 45.08 in the finals, where he placed ninth. Marty Stange recorded a personal-best time of 46.10 in the prelims and improved on his time with a new career-best mark of 45.92 in the finals, where he came in 15th.
Stanley Wu notched a season-best time of 1:58.93 and placed third in the 200 Breast final. In the prelims, Chandler Bray clocked a season-best 1:59.77 and followed that up with a sixth-place finish in the finals with a swim of 2:02.17. Dillon Hillis placed seventh with an effort of 2:02.45, after he collected a career-best mark of 2:01.56 in the prelims.
Miguel Cancel posted a personal-best swim of 1:47.44 in the prelims and followed it up with a career-best performance with a time of 1:46.40 on his way to a first-place finish in the 200 Fly final.
The Gators have a week off before the SEC Championships begin on Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Athens, Georgia.

- "The coaches still have the task of filling out the last few spots on our SEC championship meet roster. So there was a lot of stress on this group to perform well as they obviously all wanted to be at that meet."
- "We were impressed with their composure under that type of pressure and their ability to focus on the details of performing well. We walked away with numerous season-best times and multiple lifetime bests. Several of those performances would probably come close to scoring at next week's championship meet. Hopefully that bodes well as we look ahead to the SEC Championships next week."
