Florida finishes tied for ninth at the SEC Championship, missing the top-eight cut for this weekend’s match play.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Florida women's golf team finished tied for ninth at the SEC Championship, recording an 11-under par 853 through three rounds of stroke play. The Gators failed to make the cut after Arkansas' Brooke Matthews birdied the 18th hole and pushed Florida out of contention for match play.
Marina Escobar was phenomenal for Florida in the final round, carding a 4-under par 68. The sophomore kept the Gators hopes alive as they played the final round teetering on the cut-line. Escobar recorded three birdies in her last six holes, including back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th hole.
Sophomore Annabell Fuller finished one stroke behind her Florida teammate in today's round, posting a 3-under par score of 69 to conclude her three days at 4-under par overall and tied for 25th alongside Escobar.
Senior Addie Baggarly concluded her stellar tournament with an even scorecard at the conclusion of play today, carding a 3-under par 213 through three days of stroke play to sit right behind Escobar and Fuller at 28th individually.
Freshman Maisie Filler finished 1-over par today, after a birdie on the 18th hole kept Florida in contention for the match-play cut. Filler finished the tournament with an even scorecard and tied for 36th individually.
Lauren Waidner rounded out the Gators lineup, posting a 10-over par overall card through three rounds to finish in 62nd place.
Coach's Take
Emily Glaser, Head Coach
"I'm disappointed for our team to not have a chance to compete in match play. It's hard not to beat yourself up about a shot here or there over the last three days. Our league is especially competitive this year and there just isn't any room for error. We just had a little too much to overcome today."
On the team's youth…
"We had four of our five players this week who have not competed in postseason competition. So as much as today stings, I know that the learning experience for this group is huge and that we will be a better team in future years in large part because of the experience we had this week."
