Gators Represent Twelve Countries at World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida's swimming and diving program will be well represented on the world stage this summer, as 16 athletes with Gator ties are set to compete at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. The swimming portion of the competition begins on Saturday, July 26 and runs through Sunday, August 3, featuring Gators from 12 different countries showcasing their swimming and diving talents.
Of the 16 Gators, nine are currently enrolled at the university, while seven are alumni or train on campus in Gainesville. Rising seniors Josh Liendo (Canada) and Aleksas Savickas (Lithuania) are each set to compete in three individual events, while incoming junior Jonny Marshall (Great Britain) and sophomore Anita Bottazzo (Italy) will each appear in two individual events. Incoming freshman Beatriz Bezerra (Brazil), Nil Cadevall (Spain) and Zuri Ferguson (Trinidad & Tobago) are also scheduled to compete in seven combined events. In the diving portion, returning sophomore Jesus Gonzalez (Venezuela) will compete in four events.
Eric Brown, an incoming senior, was Canada's top performer in open water events, recording his best World Championship finishes. Brown placed 13th in the 5km with a time of 58:08.6, following a 21st-place finish in the 10km (2:04:04.6). He capped off his championship with the 3km knockout sprint, finishing 11th in the 1,000-meter semifinal in 11:33.1, which was half a second shy of advancing to the final.
Other Gators competing include alumni Bobby Finke (USA), Emma Weyant (USA), Amro Al-Wir (Jordan), Aryan Nehra (India) and Alberto Mestre (Venezuela), along with divers Maha Amer (Egypt) and Elizabeth Perez (Venezuela). Additionally, Katie Ledecky, who trains in Gainesville under Florida's head coach Anthony Nesty, will compete in three individual events for Team USA.
Florida's coaching staff will also represent on the world stage, as four Gator coaches are set to serve on national team coaching staffs in Singapore. Program's head coach Anthony Nesty will represent Team USA as an assistant coach, while assistant coach Jack Szaranek will serve as a personal coach for Canada. Head diving coach Bryan Gillooly and assistant diving coach Laurent Perez Gillooly will also be on deck, coaching for Egypt and Venezuela, respectively.
