Lexington, Ky. – The No. 3/10 Florida men's and women's swimming and diving programs each had successful outings on Friday. The program opened conference competition with a dual-meet sweep over No. 20/NR Kentucky at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. The men's team defeated the Wildcats 194-103, while the women claimed a 183-115 result. Combined, the Gators finished first in 23 of 28 swimming events.
The women's team opened the meet with five consecutive event victories in the 200 Medley Relay, 1,000 Free, 200 Free, 100 Back and 100 Breast. Senior Catie Choate and freshman Maddie Moreth led the way with individual sweeps of both backstroke and breaststroke events, respectively, while racing alongside Grace Rabb and Sylvia Statkevicius to win the 200 Medley Relay. "It was a great experience having both team's compete together for the first time this season, with our captains leading by example and helping the freshman grow and improve week after week."
Diving
Florida diving played a key role in the Gators' victory over the Wildcats, earning three first-place finishes across four diving events.
"This meet was a big success for us. At this point in the season, we aren't focused as much on scores and results but progression. It's a long season and we are just getting started. Our performance here was a good indicator that we're heading in the right direction."
