The Gator great used a season-best jump to claim the silver medal in the long jump.
NEW YORK – Florida great Malcolm Clemons earned a silver medal in the long jump, while two additional Gators advanced in their respective events on the opening day of the USA Track & Field (USATF) Outdoor Championships.
A national champion for the Gators in the long jump in 2025, Clemons qualified for finals in the event with a best jump of 7.77m/25-6 (-0.3) in the opening series. The 2024 Olympian saved his best jump for last, however, recording a season-best mark of 8.07m/26-5.75 (+0.7) to claim second place and earn the silver medal, his highest finish at a USATF championship event since placing second at the 2024 Olympic Trials.
Fresh off of a gold medal in the women's 1500-meter run at the USA U20 Track & Field Championships in June, Claire Stegall maintained momentum at the USATF Outdoor Championships on Thursday evening. Running in heat one of the 1500 meters, Stegall found herself in seventh entering the final 400 meters of the race. Using a 47.26 final split, the Florida freshman crossed the line in fifth with a time of 4:05.61, good for the top time qualifier slot into Saturday's finale at 5:40 p.m. ET.

Coming out of heat three, Austin secured his spot in the semifinal round with an automatic qualifier time of 10.22 (+0.2) to place fifth in his heat.
