Stegall, El Moussalit Advance to 1500m Finals at U20 World Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Claire Stegall and Mohammed El Moussalit will represent the Gators in their respective 1500-meter run final rounds at the World Athletics U20 Championships, as both qualified on Thursday evening inside Hayward Field.
The USA Track & Field U20 champion in the women's 1500 meters, Stegall found herself in the middle of the pack in the early going of Thursday's first round. The sophomore was content to stay with the group until the bell lap, when she pulled away from the field to take second place at 4:13.09, automatically qualifying for the final round on Sunday, Aug. 9, at 4:52 p.m. ET.
On the men's side, El Moussalit established himself with the lead group from the gun in heat two. The incoming Gator moved to the top five 400 meters into the race and never looked back, cruising to a third-place finish with a time of 3:45.28 to automatically qualify for finals on Sunday at 5:25 p.m. ET.
After advancing out of the first round of the women's 800 meters on Wednesday, Zeynep Ozkara will be the lone Gator in action on Friday, lining up for the semifinal round at 9:05 p.m. ET.
