Responsibilities: Is accountable for the oversight, direction and leadership of operational, programmatic, clinical and personnel activities of the Mental Health & Wellness Services department; serves as the primary mental health liaison to all 21 athletic teams and the interdisciplinary members of the Sports Health Performance department; educates coaches and support staff members about mental health; provides psychiatric assessment and medication management, as well as individual, couples and group therapy to student athletes.

Dr. Nicole Karcinski is entering her first year with the UAA as the Director of Mental Health & Wellness.  She has earned two degrees from UF, most recently a Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2016. Dr. Karcinski won the Catherine Bell Award for Excellence in Psychiatric Nursing from the UF College of Nursing in 2003 and was given a Meritorious Service Award  from Student Health in 2010. Prior to becoming the Director of Mental Health & Wellness, Dr. Karcinski worked at UF Student Health Psychiatry for 15 years. Additionally, she was the psychiatric consultant to the Behavioral Consultation/Threat Assessment team at UF from 2017 to 2023.
