Lady Gators Finish Ninth at Mason Rudolph Tourney

The University of Florida Lady Gator golf team finished in ninth place at the 2001 Mason Rudolph Championships Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn. The tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt, was Florida's first of the season.
The Lady Gators carded a third-round 308 to finish with a three-round total of 919 (304-307-308). Ohio State claimed the team title, shooting a 10-under 278 to regain the lead from Vanderbilt.
"We saw some great things from our new players," said Head Coach Jill Briles-Hinton. "And when you mix that with what our returning players can do, then we're going to have a good team score. Until that happens, our numbers aren't going to be low."
Freshman Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) and junior Brittany Straza (Fort Myers, Fla./Lehigh) turned in scores of eight-over-par 224 (Vander Lende 73-78-73; Straza 75-74-75) to finish tied for 14th for the tournament. Vander Lende shot a 73-78-73, while Straza carded a 75-74-75 returned to her first round form with a 73 in the final round to tie Straza for the Gators' top finisher. Freshman Whitney Code (Tampa, Fla./Home Schooled) finished tied for 42nd with a 234 (77-78-79). Additionally, junior Jeanne Cho (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephen's Episcopal) carded a 237 (79-77-81) for a tie for 53rd, while sophomore Joy Stephenson (Ft. Myers, Fla./Ft. Myers) turned in a 249 (82-83-84) to finish in 75th.
The Lady Gators travel to Sandestin, Fla. for the 2001 Dodge ACC/SEC Challenge, hosted by Florida State. The three-day tournament begins Sept. 28.
