Brittany Straza (Fort Myers, Fla.) shot a team-best 73 in round one to pace the University of Florida women's golf team into a three-way tie for first place following round one of the 2002 SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational. LSU's Meredith Duncan shot a one-under-par 69 to lead the individual scoring, and LSU and Georgia join Florida in a tie for the top spot.
Straza's 73 puts her in a tie for 10th place in the individual standings. Freshman Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) shot a 74 to finish in a tie for 14th. Jeanne Cho (Bradenton, Fla.) and Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.), who competed as an individual, tied for 19th place with a first-round 75. Other Florida scores were Joy Stephenson (Fort Myers, Fla.) in a tie for 24th place with a 76, Whitney Code (Tampa, Fla.) and Sam Zausner White (Rockville, Md.) in a tie for 39th with a 78 and Kim Best (Avon Park, Fla.) in a tie for 56th with an 80.
"Everyone wasn't satisfied with their rounds," said Florida head coach Jill Briles-Hinton. "They all felt like they left something on the course, and they're going to go out and get it tomorrow."
Round two will begin with groups teeing off at holes one and 10 at 8 a.m. Saturday. Florida's first tee time is at 8:27 a.m., when the individuals tee off from Hole 10. Florida's starting five tees off from Hole 1 at 9:30 a.m.
