2002 Mercedes Benz Coll. Champ
Women's Golf Tied for First
Saturday, October 19, 2002 | Women's Golf
Junior Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.) is in second place and senior Jeanne Cho (Bradenton, Fla.) is in a tie for third as the University of Florida women's golf team is tied for first place with the Swedish Junior National team with a two-round score of 603. The Lady Gators finished the second day of competition two-over-par at the 2002 Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship hosted by the University of Tennessee.
"We had a great practice session yesterday," Head Coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. "After a disappointing first round we bounced back and played an excellent round today, on a very difficult golf course."
Dick was in second place yesterday after shooting a one-over par 73. Today, Dick shot a two-under-par 70 to hold her second place standing. Cho shot a four-under-par 68 today to move up from 27th-place to being tied for third.
"I am very proud of Amanda and Jeanne," Briles-Hinton said. "Amanda shot very well yesterday, but she could have shot lower. She came back and played very well today. To be under par and stay under par is another step in the developing process. She has turned her game up to the next level."
"Jeanne worked extremely hard in practice, as always, and came back to play today like she knows how to play," Briles-Hinton said.
Senior Brittany Straza (Fort Myers, Fla.) is tied for 32nd, with a two-round total of 157 (79-78--157). Freshman Camila Gonzalez (Bucaramanga, Columbia) improved 12 shots today, and is tied for 45th-place (86-74--160). Sophomore Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) is tied for 58th, shooting a first-round 83 (83-79--162) and Joy Stephenson (Fort Myers, Fla.), competing as an individual, finishing the second-round with a score of 161 (82-79--161) and is tied for 49th-place.
Florida will tee off in the final round of the tournament Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Gettysvue Polo, Country Club. Live scoring of the tournament can be found at www.golfstat.com.
