WOMEN'S GOLF IN SECOND AT CHRYSLER ACC/SEC

The University of Florida golf team is in second place with a score of 295 after the first day of competition at the 2002 Chrysler ACC/SEC Challenge hosted by Florida State. The Lady Gators are the defending tournament champion after winning last seasons tournament by 12 strokes. The Mississippi State and Auburn are tied at 294 to lead the 12-team tournament held at Raven Course in Destin, Fla.

"We played very solid today," Head Coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. "We weren't able to have a practice round yesterday because of the conditions, but we were able to walk the course and put together a game plan. These women stuck to that plan and posted very solid scores. I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

Sophomore Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) and senior Jeanne Cho (Bradenton, Fla) are both tied for eighth place after shooting a two-over-par 73 to lead the Lady Gators. In her first tournament of the season, junior Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.) carded a 74 to finish the first round tied for 13th place. Junior Joy Stephenson (Fort Myers, Fla.) is tied for 19th, finishing right behind Dick with a score of 75. Sophomore Whitney Code (Tampa, Fla.) finished tied for 35th with a score of 77. In her first collegiate tournament freshman Maria Camila Gonzalez (Bucaramanga, Columbia) competed as an individual, shooting a four-over-par 75 to finish tied with Stephenson for 19th.

Florida will tee off Saturday morning at the Sandestin Resort Raven Course, tee times are yet to be determined. The final round of the tournament will take place Sunday.
