The No. 4 University of Florida men's golf team is in 14th place out of 15 teams at +10 (586) following the first two rounds of the Las Vegas Intercollegiate in Las Vegas, Nev. The Gators are 21-strokes behind tournament leader, Texas at -11 (565) at the Southern Highlands Golf Course. UF shot an eight-over par 296 on Saturday. Host school UNLV, is in second place at -8 (568).
UF is led by freshman James Vargas (Miami, Fla.), who jumped 10 spots in the second day from 41st to a tie for 31st at +1 (145). Vargas shot a second round one-under 71 following his first round 74 (+2).
Vargas is followed by two fellow freshmen in Matt Every (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and Brett Stegmaier (Madison, Conn.), who are both tied for 42nd. Every is at +3 (147), as he shot a +3 (75) in the second 18-holes of the tournament. Stegmaier is also at +3 (147), as he shot a +2 (74) Saturday afternoon.
Junior Camilo Villegas (Medellin, Colombia) is tied for 55th at +5 (149), as he shot a second round +6 (78). Senior Jordan Code (Tampa, Fla.) is tied for 69th at +10 (154). Code's second round score of 76 (+4) was two-strokes better than his first round 78 on Friday.
The third and final round of the Las Vegas Intercollegiate will begin Sunday, March 9, at 8 a.m. at the Southern Highlands Golf Course.
