M. Golf Finishes Eighth at Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Tourn.

Kentucky fired a final round 295 to claim the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate by five strokes on Tuesday afternoon at Old Memorial Golf Course. The Wildcats recorded a score of 872 (+8) during the three-round tournament to snare the team championship, while UK senior Mark Blakefield captured the individual crown by two shots. Georgia State finished second at 877 (+13), while South Carolina slipped to third on the final day of competition by posting a total score of 879 (+15).
Florida's men's golf team wrapped up play at the event by shooting a three-over par score of 291 in the final round of the 54-hole tournament. Head Coach Buddy Alexander's squad finished eighth with a 29-over par score of 893.
Under blue skies and impeccable field conditions, the 15-team field totaled 11 rounds below the listed par of 72. Only two players finished under par during the two-day event, with four others carding an even par score of 216.
Blakefield claimed the individual title by carding a three-under par score of 213, while UCF junior Stefan Wistorf posted rounds of 68-73-74=215, to finish two strokes back at one-under par.
Following another improved round, the Gators shaved another stroke off their round score, for a final-round total of 291. Junior Matt Every (Daytona Beach, Fla.) led UF by posting rounds of 77-66-73=216, to finish with an even par score and tie for third place overall. Junior James Vargas (Miami, Fla.) finished eight strokes back of Every and tied for 28th place following rounds of 77-74-73=224.
Junior Brett Stegmaier (Madison, Conn.) carded his best round of the tournament in the final round with a one-under 71 to finish the tournament with a nine-over par score of 225. Freshman Manuel Villegas (Medellin, Columbia) also enjoyed a solid final round, shooting a two-over par 74 to finish tied for 48th place with a score of 228 (+12). Senior Duke Butler IV (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) improved upon his six-over par score of 78 by carding a 77, giving him a total score of 235 (+19).
Playing as an individual, junior Ryan Cochran (Paducah, Ky.) carded a two-over par score of 74 to finish the tournament tied for 40th plac by carding rounds of 79-73-74=226. Complete tournament results and information can be found at www.gatorzone.com.
