Women's Golf Moves Up To Fourth At Lady Gator
Monday, March 8, 2004 | Women's Golf
The No. 15 Florida women's golf team moved up to fourth place Monday after carding a 309 in the second round of the 32nd Annual SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational. The Lady Gators have a two day total of 617 (308-309).
Duke held on to the top spot with a two-round score of 588 (292-296). Ohio State (299-309) fell next in line at 608, followed by Michigan State at 616 (299-317), Florida at 617 and Tennessee at 620 (301-319).
"We didn't play as well as we would have liked," Florida coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. "The course is pretty tough and that's indicated by the high scores that were shot today. But we moved up three spots and we're one behind Michigan State. I feel like we can catch Ohio State and we hope we can catch Duke, which would be difficult, but it's not out of the question."
Sophomore Aimee Cho (Orlando, Fla.) moved up to seventh place from 25th after carding a three-over-par 73.
"Yesterday was a little disappointing because we're the defending champions," Cho said. "We're pumped up and we have a lot more confidence and I feel like the team will play a lot better tomorrow. I feel like I left a lot of shots out there today, but I think I hung in there pretty well and I'm pleased."
Sophomore Camila Gonzalez (Bucaramanga, Columbia) stayed consistent as she hit 76 for the second consecutive day to tie for 10th. Junior Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) improved by one stroke with a 79 to tie for 42nd place. Senior Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.) is tied for 20th after carding an 81, giving her a two-round total of 156.
The third and final round Tuesday will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Live scoring will be available at GatorZone.com, courtesy of golfstat.com.
