After a solid day, the No. 13 University of Florida women’s golf team is tied for fourth place after the first day of the Bryan National Collegiate.
The Gators carded a 295 in the first round, only seven strokes over par. Florida is six shots behind the leader, Duke (289). Auburn and Purdue are tied for second (294) and Vanderbilt is fourth (295).
“The team played well today,” Florida head coach Jill Briles- Hinton said. “Our goal was to play smart golf, and they did that. They did an excellent job of execution and we hope to do the same tomorrow.”
Sophomore Aimee Cho (Orlando, Fla.) and junior Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood, Fla.) are tied for 11th place to lead the Lady Gators after carding a one-over par. Vander Lende birdied on five putts to finish with a 73 for the round, tying her season-low.
Senior Amanda Dick (Clearwater, Fla.) carded a 74 (+2), which ties her season-low round. Dick is tied for 15th place.
After shooting a three-over par, sophomore Tarah McNaughton (Bradenton, Fla.) is tied for 29th place.
The Lady Gators will tee off Saturday morning for the second round of the three-day tournament.
