M. Golf Remains In Third At The Puerto Rico Classic

The No. 5 University of Florida Men's Golf Team held its ground during the second day of the Puerto Rico Classic by finishing the second of three rounds with a four-under-par 284 at the Rio Mar Resort. The Gators recorded a team score under-par for a second straight day to remain in third-place behind Oklahoma State and Georgia.
Freshman Billy Horschel (Grant, Fla.) led a trio of Gator golfer that finished the day with scores of par or under for a second consecutive day. Horschel carded a team-best score of 68, which was four-under on the par-72, 6,945-yard course. In only seven collegiate tournaments this season, Horschel has tallied seven rounds at par or under. He is currently tied for ninth-place with seven other players on the leader board.
Senior Brett Stegmaier (Madison, Conn.) started the day in a tie for first, but recorded a 74 (+2) to fall back into a tie for ninth. Senior Matt Every (Daytona Beach, Fla.) also finds himself in a tie for ninth with a two-round total of 142 (-2). Every carded an even-par 72 during the second round.
Senior James Vargas (Miami, Fla.) rebounded from a slow start on Sunday to shoot a two-under-par 70. Vargas is currently tied for 34th-place heading into the final round with a total of 146 (+2). Freshman Toby Ragland (Jacksonville, Fla.) slipped back into a tie for 51st after carding a 77 (+5).
“We have to play a good round tomorrow to stay in middle of this thing, which we are capable of doing,” Florida coach Buddy Alexander said. “We haven't had a great day yet, we had two good days. I have a feeling we have a good round left in us and hopefully we'll play better tomorrow.”
Oklahoma State moved into the lead after Pablo Martin, Zack Robinson and Tyler Leon each recorded scores below par. Martin was tied for the lead at the start of the day and took over sole possession with a second round score of 67 (-5). Robinson turned in the best round by firing a 66 on Monday. No. 1 Georgia remained in second place with team scores of 281-283 = 564 (-12).
The Puerto Rico Classic will conclude on Tuesday with the final round. Play is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. (ET).
