The University of Florida women's golf team matched its second round score and shot a 20-over 308 in Monday's final round of the NCAA Fall Preview on Monday at the Caves Valley Golf Course. The Lady Gators finished the tournament in 14th with a total score of 928 (+64).
“This tournament was a really good starting point for our team,” said UF head coach Jill Briles-Hinton. “Now I will start the beginning stages of coaching with some of these girls and we will begin to see improvements.”
The Lady Gators were led by freshman Evan Jensen (Bellaire, Fla.), who also led the squad following the morning session on Sunday. Jensen made a career-high four birdies in the final round of play, carding an even-par 72. Her 36-hole score of 221 (+5) was good enough to land in a tie for 17th, up six spots from round two.
“Again, I am impressed with Evan's performance during this tournament,” Hinton said. “She was one-under par for a while and ended up shooting an even-par 72 which was really solid.”
Sophomore Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) had her highest round of the tournament, but still finished second among teammates with a six-over 78 for a tournament score of 225 (+9), good for a tie for 26th. She collected 12 pars, one birdie, three bogeys and two double bogeys in her final round.
Redshirt junior Brittany Nelson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) had her best round of the tournament, improving seven strokes from her second round to close the tournament with a five-over 77. After collecting three bogeys and two double bogeys on her first nine holes, Nelson rebounded to make birdies on three of her final eight holes. Her final score of 243 (+27) placed her in a tie for 61st.
Matching her score from round two, freshman Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) carded an 11-over 83 in the final round of competition to bring her final score to a 244 (+28), finishing in 64th. Redshirt sophomore Lauren Uzelatz (Lakeland, Fla.) also matched her second-round score of 81 (+9) to finish in a tie for 72nd with a 254 (+38).
Arizona State climbed two spots to finish the tournament in first place with a final score of 872 (295-291-286, +8), a commanding nine strokes ahead of the field. Oklahoma State's Caroline Hedwall took home the individual title, carding a three-under 69 to finish the tournament with a four-under 212 (73-70-69).
The Lady Gators will return to action on Sept. 26-28 at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship hosted by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
