Men's Golf Finishes Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational In Eighth Place

After being in 14th place heading into Sunday's third and final round, the University of Florida men's golf team climbed six places on the leaderboard to finish the Schenkel E-Z-Go in eighth place. The Gators owned a team score of 875 (+11) after carding their best round of the tournament on Sunday and the second-lowest round of the field, a four-under 284.
As was the case all weekend, the Gators were led by junior Bank Vongvanij (Bradenton, Fla.), who had the best finish among teammates. Vongvanij remained in a tie for sixth as he was heading into the round, after carding an even-par 72 in his final round. His finish matched his season best, previously finishing tied for sixth at the Gary Koch Invitational. Vongvanij finished the tournament with a total score of 213 (69-72-72, -3).
Tyson Alexander (Gainesville, Fla.) jumped 18 spots on the leaderboard to finish the tournament tied for 20th with a 54-hole score of 218 (70-77-71, +2). Alexander carded a one-under 71 in his final round on Sunday. Alexander entered the turn at one-under after carding a birdie on his third hole and rebounded from two-straight bogeys on his 11th and 12th with birdies on his 14th and 16th.
Senior Tim McKenney (Scottsdale, Ariz.) had the low score of the day for the Gators, carding a four-under 68 in his final round. He tallied six birdies and two bogeys on Sunday to finish in a tie for 48th with a 223 (79-76-68, +7). Freshman Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.) finished in a tie for 53rd with a tournament score of 224 (76-75-73, +8). Mou carded his best round of the weekend in Sunday's final round with a one-over 73. Mou entered the turn at two-over after carding three bogeys and one birdie in his first nine holes. He followed with a double bogey on his 10th hole and a bogey on his 13th to land at five-over. Mou finished strong, making two bogeys and an eagle in his final five holes to finish at one-over.
Redshirt junior Andres Echavarria (Medellin, Colombia) rounded out Florida's lineup, tying for 71st place. E chavarria carded a 229 (80-74-75, +13).
Freshman Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) tied McCumber for 48th place after carding a 223 (74-73-76, +7), competing as an individual.
Auburn claimed the team title, beating out North Florida by one stroke, with a team score of 862 (288-283-291, -2). UNF boasted a 54-hole score of 863 (285-279-299, -1).
The Gators will travel to Jackson, Miss., on April 5-6 for the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, the squad's final event of the spring before heading to the SEC Championship on April 16-18.
