Men's Golf Finish Tied for Second At SEC Championship

The University of Florida carded the low team round on Sunday to finish the 2010 SEC Championship tied for second. The Gators finished with a tournament score of 849 (280-292-277, +9) after carding a three-under 277 on day three. Florida climbed four places on the leaderboard after entering Sunday's round in a tie for sixth.
“The guys put up a heck of a fight today,” said head coach Buddy Alexander. “The team just dug a little bit too deep of a hole yesterday to play out of. The team played great and I'm proud of them. I have to tip my cap to Georgia who played solid.”
Junior Bank Vongvanij's (Bradenton, Fla.) third-round score of 66 (-4) was not only the low UF round on Sunday, but it was the second-lowest score of all competitors. Vonganij's score propelled himself to finish in a tie for sixth after entering the round in a tie for 15th. He got off to a strong start and carded five birdies in his first nine holes. Vongvanij made a bogey on his 13th hole before carding five-straight pars to close out the tournament. He finished with a total score of 208 (70-72-66, -2).
“Bank came out smoking and that was nice to see,” said Alexander. “It was good to see him bust out of his slump he's been in lately.”
Redshirt junior Andres Echavarria (Medellin, Colombia) finished a consistent weekend of play in a tie for 12th. Echavarria shot an even-par 70 on day three after carding five birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey. He posted a tournament score of 211 (69-72-70, +1).
Senior Tyson Alexander (Gainesville, Fla.) climbed six places on the leaderboard to finish the tournament in a tie for 26th with a total score of 217 (70-75-72, +7). Fellow senior Tim McKenney (Scottsdale, Ariz.) made the biggest jump on the leaderboard after finishing the second round in a tie for 46th. McKenney finished the final SEC Championship of his career in a tie for 26th alongside Alexander. McKenney battled back to card his lowest score of the weekend on Sunday with a 69 (-1). He posted a total score of 217 (75-73-69).
Freshman Phillip Choi (Orlando, Fla.) finished in a tie for 32nd with a 218 (71-75-72, +8).
Georgia claimed the 2010 SEC Championship title with a tournament score of 844 (283-277-284, +4).
