Florida Men's Golf Leads at Jerry Pate after Day One

The University of Florida men's golf team is in first place after the first day of action at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on October 15 in Vestavia Hills, Ala. As a team, the Gators shot a 282 (+2) for the opening round at the par-70, 7,204 yard course. UF is currently six strokes ahead of tournament-host Alabama.
“We played solidly in the morning,” said head coach Buddy Alexander.
Senior Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.), in his first tournament of the season, fired a 68 (-2) in the first round to lead the Gators. Fueled by four birdies against two birdies, Mou currently sits in a tie for first place with two others after 18 holes.
Seniors Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) both finished the opening round in 71 strokes (+1). The pair was tied for seventh place with two others after one round of play.
Sophomore J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) was two-over par for the first round, good enough for a tie for 11th place.
Freshman A.J. Crouch (Jacksonville, Fla.) rounded out the Gator lineup, finishing in 78 strokes (+8).
“For a coach, having five guys go out there and play well is exactly what you want,” Alexander said.
The second round was not completed due to a fog delay prior to the start of the first round. Play will conclude Tuesday morning with the final round following completion of the second round. Scoring will be available on Golfstat.
