Round 2 of Tar Heel Invitational Suspended for Florida Women's Golf
Saturday, October 11, 2014 | Women's Golf
The Florida women's golf team shot a +21 (309) in Round 2 of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina on Saturday. However, play was suspended until Sunday morning at 8 a.m. due to inclement weather, with a shotgun start scheduled for Round 3 immediately after, on the par-72 UNC Finley Golf Course. Although the Gators had entered the day tied for sixth place after a team total of 293 (+5), 12 of the 18 teams competing in the event have not completed their second round.
After shooting even par in the opening round, Gator freshman Taylor Tomlinson led the team again on the second day by shooting one-under on the back nine to finish at +2 (74) on the day. Sophomore Maria Torres is at +5 for the tournament after carding a 75 today, while sophomore Kelly Grassel is at +6 following a 77 this afternoon.
Head Coach Emily Glaser:
Thoughts on the Gators' low scorer:
“Impressive performance from our freshman Taylor (Tomlinson), who closed with one-under par on the tough back nine.”
Thoughts on the Gators' second day of competition:
“Overall, a tough day but we will look ahead to tomorrow and try to finish the event on a positive note.”
